Extravagant Love! For You!
This morning I was welcomed into the day with one of my favorite Psalms. Psalm 16 says, "1 Keep me safe, O God. For in You I take refuge..." 5-6 "Lord, you have assigned me my portion and my cup; You have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places, surely I have a delightful inheritance..." 7 "I will praise the Lord, Who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken."
I just want to praise Jesus today! I want to thank Him for all that He is! I want to thank Him for all that He created! I want to thank Him for my family! I want to thank Him for the trials and the lessons of love. God's story in my life follows the pattern set in Psalm 40. I think that's true for a lot of us. That's why David is so relatable! David talks about the healing God had brought him, and how he was willing to share it with everyone. And yet, being honest, he ends the Psalm by saying how much he needs the Lord continuously.
Also, the delightful inheritance mentioned in Psalm 16 is secured in heaven for eternity. It may not always feel delightful here. It may never feel delightful here...this is not our home! I hope to keep pointing my kiddos to eternity. I want to be transparent so our home points to that eternal home! It needs to do that because I can't make home perfect. They see me fail. I pray they always see me repent. I pray God redeems all of the crazy moments of me for the incredible eternal moments of HIM!
I never want the expression of my momentary reality to dull the beauty of God's eternal love! I pray that nothing I say or do will block someone from believing how amazing our God is! The more I see my weakness, the more beautiful the cross is. The distance between His holiness and my neediness is bigger than I will ever fully know! The cross just gets bigger and bigger with each new day of awareness of God's mercy and grace in my life.
Dear ones, you are dear to God. He is writing a story in the midst of your circumstances. There will be days when you burst with excitement at the notice of His intimate touch. You will have to tell someone! It can not be contained! There will also be days when you are in the pit. He will lift you out of it. He will! And there will always be a continuous need for His filling each and every day.
These are just a few of my favorite verses from Psalm 40. May we all rest into the unknown and embrace the One Who knows. In His time it will become clear, and someone is going to need to hear us say "I've been there!" It will not be wasted! Press in today. Just today. Look for Divine appointments. Ask Him for specific touches. There is nothing greedy about that! A child reaching for a parent's hug is always precious to a parent!
Psalm 40:9-11, 16-17
"I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord . I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation. As for you, O Lord , you will not restrain your mercy from me; your steadfast love and your faithfulness will ever preserve me! But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, “Great is the Lord !” As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God!"
Paul says that we are like clay pots with cracks. The cracks are so others can see the glow of HIM inside the brokenness of us. "But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us." 2 Corinthians 4:7 Celebrate brokenness with me! Allow His light to shine through. Be encouraged that you will have dark days and light days. "And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it." John 1:5 I love His marvelous light! Here's a song about it!
