Let Hope Be Simple

"But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."  John 14:26-17 

 God wants us to have peace.  Extraordinary peace!  He sent the Holy Spirit to remind of us of truth...don't you just love it when He brings a verse to mind that you need in that specific moment?!  

 Reading, meditating, and learning Scripture ties those Words to our souls, and then the Holy Spirit can call them out!  Often when stressed, our minds can go blank!  That is why it is incredible that HE affirms His presence in this way...just one verse...start today.

 If you want to do more than one verse, ask the Lord to give you a word to focus on for a season and begin collecting verses with that word.  You will be surprised that you do not have to look for them!  God will bring them to you!  I can't explain it, but I can testify to it!  He will make His presence known, and it will be amazing!  God. Is. Personal. Believe. Me.

So I said in my last post that "I can't see the trees." It's true.  And you can't just snap your fingers and be teleported to the other side of grief.  I've only written a few times this year, but when I write, I don't hold back.  In my case, grief is about my brother taking his life at age of 47, and losing a dear friend to cancer a few months later.  Its true what's been said, you can't go around it, you must go through it.   But I have a Great Shepherd leading me through the desert.  This is not about pulling yourself of by your own boot straps, or faking joy, or mustering up the "right" feelings.  It's about truth transcending our feelings, and being OK with both, truth and feelings.  It's about being real. Does your bag have a hole in it? That can be a good thing! Get free of baggage!!

Miles in the bag? Yeah, that's good!  But it does not define me!  Measurements!  They can be so conflicting!  It is good to have goals, to move forward, to make progress, but to what end?  If you are like me, the bag that holds your miles has a big hole in it!  There's never enough!  By the grace of God, I've been on a life long journey learning that running with a hole in your bag can be a good thing!   Now I picture a wind sock instead of a bag.  Let those miles fall out the bottom!  Try that one on!   A banner trailing me that is empty .  My hope is that the empty banner  I carry is filled with the full wind of God!   If you struggle with measurements you can find peace here today.
